Happy Easter: but not for the bunnies?

The Easter holidays signifies the start of spring, a time of birth. We have Easter eggs and bunnies and spring lambs. Unfortunately far too many animals are born to live all their life in pain and suffering. There are two campaigns I heard about this Easter that I wanted to highlight. Both are from excellent organisations.
Firstly Compassion in World Farming have highlighted the welfare issues involved with rabbit farming:
http://www.ciwf.org.uk/farm_animals/rabbits/welfare_issues.aspx
and the horrifying fact that over 32 MILLION rabbits are dying in their cages in the EU each year. How much will they have suffered before succumbing to this most pointless of deaths?
Secondly the BUAV reminds us of all the rabbits suffering in laboratories- for outdated and unecessary testing http://www.buav.org/article/983/please-think-of-rabbits-in-laboratories-this-easter

Please do take a look. Maybe instead of indulging in an Easter egg you could consider a donation to one of these organisations? They do loads of important work.
And finally a personal plea, please think carefully before buying any animal as a pet; especially a rabbit.
Little April on the road to recovery after suffering severe wounds
having been abandoned, pregnant, along with 5 other rabbits, last Easter.
Far too many live lives of frustration and boredom forgotten in hutches at the bottom of the garden, or get abandoned like little April here. She was lucky, she was rescued and her wounds were treated- it was touch and go for a while- but she now has a wonderful home.
Rabbits are social animals and require vaccinations, neutering and the right diet to avoid serious health and behavioural problems.
I believe there should be tighter regulations around selling pets and that much better information should be provided about their care. One of many policies in our Animal Mini Manifesto:
