MAKE ARCHWAY LIVEABLE - DITCH THE ROUNDABOUT!

Tonight I joined Better Archway Forum, Islington Living Streets and Islington Cyclists Action Group, along with many Archway residents, calling for the Archway roundabout to be ditched.

With Caroline Russell and Sarah Cope

The demonstration was well attended, with several hundred people walking on the road around the roundabout calling for the return of the traditional two-way flow, with 20 mph limits, making the area safe for journeys on foot and by bike not just by car.

Archway is dominated by lanes of vehicles, which is adversely affecting local people and businesses who suffer from noise, air pollution and danger from the heavy traffic.

Working nearby on Hornsey Road and regularly walking down to do my visit at Cat's Protection on Junction road I know the area well and always try to avoid the roundabout itself.

I understand that there is already funding allocated for routine maintenance of signals and road surfaces which would cover much of the cost of removing the roundabout.
So there is no excuse.

With thanks to Jim Jepps of Big Smoke for the photos.
